about Shanghaied

A music video for Hudson Mohawke. 

One of my favorite musical artist groups is Hudson Mohawke, as they are responsible for soundtracks in multiple movies as well as video games. I wanted to create a motion graphic that replicated the notes and beats throughout one of their songs, to not only better myself in animation, but to create an exciting visualization of the song.

I wanted to create something bold and energetic and so I went with the defiant black and white for the visuals, and wanted to create this idea of a tunnel changing its movements and shape to the pace of the music. The song "Shanghaied" is a very face paced and rhythmic song and so I wanted to translate each beat into geometric shapes coming at the viewer  but eventually floating off into the void when the beats finally ended. The project was a true test of my abilities in after effects.
